What is the knowledge community?

The knowledge community, or ‘KC’ as it is commonly known, is a website that provides free and easy to use communications tools to people to help them share, learn and work together.

It connects a wide range of people, groups, organisations and information in a way that is designed to make it easy for people to find who or what they are looking for, taking into account a variety of different perspectives and points of view.

The knowledge community is not a clinical service offering advice and support for vulnerable people with health and social care needs, nor does it contain clinical or confidential patient information.

What improvements have been made?

We have improved the design and presentation making it more engaging, social and fun. We have changed the way information is organised making it easier to navigate around and reducing the chance that users will ‘get lost’. Most importantly, we have also improved the user experience by making it simpler and more easy to use.

How have people been involved in making the improvements?

We are committed to inclusive working and have actively sought to involve people in designing and shaping the new KC. A wide range of people have been involved in a variety of activities over the past 12 months. We ran focus groups to assess the strengths and weakness of the existing KC and scope requirements for the new KC. A representative steering group collaboratively prepared tender documentation and assessed bids from developers. We also ran a series of consultations and surveys on the new designs. During the summer we ran workshops to test the usability of the final prototypes. Read more here www.csip.org.uk/kcconsultation

Following the launch in November 2006 we will evaluate the development work. This will include an assessment of how people have been involved in the development process.
