Knowledge community
The knowledge community website provides free and easy to use communications tools to help people share, learn and work together.
The knowledge community is commonly referred to as the ‘KC’. Throughout this document we use the term KC to mean the knowledge community.
The Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) operates the KC. CSIP is commissioned by the Department of Health to support positive changes in services and in the wellbeing of people with health and social care needs. CSIP works through eight regions while its central team is based at Room 8E 44, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds, LS2 7UE England. General
Please read this privacy policy and the associated terms and conditions (together ‘the terms’) carefully before you use the KC. If you do not accept the terms you cannot use the KC. Our terms and conditions can be read at http://kc.csip.org.uk/terms-and-conditions.php.
This privacy policy describes how any information by which you can be identified and that you choose to provide us with may be used. The policy also gives you information about our use of cookies; and how to find and control your cookies. This policy applies to the entire KC.
We may amend the privacy policy by at any time. Any changes to this statement will be posted online and accessible at http://kc.csip.org.uk/privacy-policy.php. We recommend that you monitor the terms from time to time.
You can withdraw consent at any by emailing us at kc@csip.org.uk. If you do decide to withdraw your consent this may result in the restriction of your access to some areas of the KC.
By entering your personal information (e.g. name and email address) in the fields requested, you are able to use the KC. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. When using your personal information CSIP will act in accordance with current legislation and aim to meet current Internet best practice.
What we collect
We ask you to provide basic personal information, including name, company, address (if you are linked to an organisation) and email address.
We also ask you to identify the region where you live. This helps the relevant CSIP regional development centre to communicate with the people living in the region within which it operates.
You also have the option to provide additional information regarding your personal or professional interest and links with organisations or people already registered on the KC.
You will be asked to choose a password when you register so you can use certain areas of the KC. We will then send you confirmation of this password. You must keep the password secure and confidential at all times. You will also need to provide your email address and password (‘log in’), so you can use certain areas of the KC.
Once registered you control your own profile, which will be visible to all users of the KC. You can change your password at any time by visiting your profile http://kc.csip.org.uk/profile.php.
If you forget your password, please use the ‘Forgotten password?’ form on the ‘log in’ page http://kc.csip.org.uk/login.php. We will then re-send your current password to your email address.
What personal details are visible on the web site?
The contact details that you provide on registration and that you add to your profile page will be visible to all KC users. But you may choose to hide your email address from other users of the KC.
Personal contact details you provide when you register will not be available to unregistered users of the KC via the worldwide web, unless you are working for or with CSIP.
Private postal addresses that do not belong to an organisation registered on the KC will only be visible to the CSIP regional development centre that manages an individual's record. Any other material such as messages, resources, news and events you add to public areas of the KC may be accessible to unregistered as well as registered users.
What will we do with the personal information we gather?
We may use the contact information you provide on registration to communicate news and events we believe may be of interest to you.
We may contact you to seek your feedback about the KC, either by email or mail.
From time to time we may issue promotional emails about services relevant to the KC. The KC also provides registered users with the ability to sign up for alerts and email bulletins on chosen topics.
We may also collect and analyse information about site use of to improve our services to KC users. We will not match visitor profiles to the identities of individual registered users. See the section ‘Visitor information’ below.
We will not match or exchange information about registered users of the KC with the Electronic Patient Record, NHS Staff Record or any other personal data records held by any public organisation.
Who we share the information with
CSIP may share contact details of KC users held on the system with partners in its national programmes to promote news and it thinks may be of interest.
We will not sell or lease your personal information to third parties, unless we have your permission or are required to do so by law.
What if you think we have incorrect information, or you would like a copy of the information we hold about you?
If you request details of personal information which we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. We will need to charge you a small fee of no more than £10 to cover our administration costs. If you would like a copy of the information held about you please contact the CSIP regional development centre in your region.
You can edit your contact details at any time by logging in to the KC and editing your personal page.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. However you are reminded that if register as a user of the KC you are consenting to the publication of your details by us as described the section ‘What we collect’ above.
Other web sites
Our web site may contain links to let you visit other related web sites easily. However, once you have used these links to leave our site we have no control over any one one you enter. We cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information, which you provide whilst visiting other sites and they are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to each web site you visit.
Visitor information
We gather non-personal information about visitors to our website using cookies, log file data and code which is embedded on our website. We use this type of information to help improve the services we provide to everyone who uses the KC.
During any visit to http://kc.csip.co.uk, the pages you see, along with a short text file called a 'cookie', are downloaded to your computer.
A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a website's computer and stored on your computer's hard drive. Information supplied by cookies can help us to provide you with a better online user experience and assist us to analyse the profile of our visitors. For example: if on a previous visit you went to pages with information about self-directed support, we might find this out from your cookie and highlight self-directed support information on your subsequent visits.
